No, you may be right. We're in a dead end ourselves and we've learned little. But at least we've learned something. We have ourselves a little trickster. Maybe he would like to introduce himself unless he prefers names such as Tawny Creature or Cat-like sneak.

Does the the flick of blood get me any information at all that I didn't know before? Of course, the real puzzle with this creature is motivation, not makeup. But so far, it has done nothing actively to help or harm us.

I throw it a salute and then head off in the opposite direction. Ultimately, I pull out my captured trilobite and reattach it to my belt. I'll be staying in this area and sneaking around. I want to see how the sneak behaves when there is no one around.

With a glance over from whatever I'm doing, I snap my fingers and the cliff gives the trickster a quick shove while he is scampering up it.

I will switch my tactics to a graceful and well-coordinated dance around the creature, using the benefits of my trilobite to help me out. I will be hoping to get a better look at that thing on its back; maybe prod it with my sword and see what's in there. Compare it to the other... technologies that have been growing among the flora and fauna around here. Again, not trying to hurt the thing. Just learn about it.

I will slink into cover, behind a rock or into a bush and avoid the fuzzy thing's sight. Maybe I'll catch a glimpse of what it used to scorch me last time, or at least get a set of eyes on what Yerkan's display could be missing. A creature from times of old, maybe it brings tidings from such an era here or is some sort of mischief messenger of a higher tier.

The creature moves like lightning to keep the Pack out of reach. At one point, a thick cable streams out to swat your blade away. Recognizing this movement as a weakness, Volatilus has an excellent chance to move in to help.

YERKAN VS TAWNY CREATURE

Tier: Hero Deity vs Steepest
Domain: Trickery, Knowledge vs Escape, ???
Weakness: None vs Centralized Data
Equipment: Loupe Estoc vs Pak
Circumstance: Surrounded vs Backup Complete
Spell: Knockback Tremor vs Trilobite Effect (Oracular Muddying)
Insight: Hunting Tactics vs None
Allies: Volatilus vs None

Let's have a roll, Yerkan of Elish.

Yerkan rolls 8
Tawny Creature rolls 5

No effect

The creature dodges all attacks on his Pak and once more scampers up the cliff. This time, when Thrash retaliates, he has a piton set into the earth to keep him anchored long enough for another hop, skip and jump to the top, where he disappears with a CRACK.

Ahhh dangit. Well, we have new insights. I think you guys should keep trying. We've got almost no leads on the Sslugs and I don't want to wait until they've finished carving their hint across my front lawn.
