Stakes of living bamboo grow up all over this marsh. Some are small, like thickets of rushes. Others tower up toward the sky, thick as oaks and hollow.

Occasionally one will creak, splinter, and come crashing down, warning adventurers about the dangers of this dark, timbered marsh.

I will march deeper into the thicket, keeping an eye open for anything of interest around or within the hollow bamboo shoots.

Puzzle ID #: 3
Attempts: Unlimited
Resets: 1 (2 eggs available)
Time: 3 days (Only Yerkan may attempt this puzzle until then)
Discoverer: Yerkan

You find a bamboo stalk with an opening, and a shelf.
Upon the shelf is a machine shaped like a quarter-cylinder, resting on one flat side. It is covered with buttons and levers, and appears much like a typewriter. Many of the levers or buttons are topped with a gem, or made of a recognizable mineral.

Many of them are jammed or gummed up.
There is a square hatch in the bole of the giant bamboo stem. It's also jammed.

List of functioning levers:
Emerald
Sapphire
Ruby
Diamond
Beryl
Steel
Jasper
Quartz
Platinum
Wood
Gold
Lapis Lazuli
Agate
Jade
Opal
Uranium (it LOOKS unradioactive)
Pearl
Enormous Red Lever

List of functioning buttons:
Nickel
Tin
Electrum
Onyx
Chrome
Zinc
Silver
Hematite
Mercury

What do you do?

Nor ignores the others and gravity hops from stalk tip to stalk tip further into the marsh, following his nose in hopes of finding more shinys.

You come upon a steep wall made of a massive diamond slab. The slab is layered in solid ice like that of the Frozen Ocean.

The wall is studded with tunnels through the ice, arrayed at random. Some look like they'd probably go all the way through.

Nor is sniffing the at the holes, smelling for shinys, climbing up the wall as he does.

Fascinating. Well, I suppose I shall perform the initial test.

I depress the Mercury button.

You detect a mingling of smells, from the humus of the woodlands to the bitterness of the swamp.

The mercury button does nothing.

If you do not expect a consequence for failure, it is acceptable to post more than one guess or attempt at once.
