The Chasm's Edge

Perhaps a zealous miner followed a rich vein. More likely, some disaster caused a gap between two tectonic plates of diamond, creating a deep gap that seems to go on forever in places.
Bridges and causeways crisscross the chasm, and caves have been delved into it, seeking riches.

I reach the edge of the chasm and dive down. Let's see how deep this thing goes.

It goes on for quite a ways down. You pass the incursions of several small universes on your way, embedded in the stone like minerals. Eventually, you do reach the bottom.

Along one direction, you see a light. The other direction is a labyrinth of tunnels.

You reach it unmolested and head in. Many of the passages are blocked with doors. Sometimes you are able to shoulder these open or otherwise bypass them. Sometimes you are instead led in a direction for a while before being able to make a real choice again.

Eventually you come to a solid wooden door. Behind this door is a chamber which, disappointingly, is full of doors. There are three of them, in fact. Each has a tiny diamond gem embedded in it. When you put your hand near a lock, the lock twitches and begins to unlock. When your hand withdraws, the lock puts itself back together.

Which door do you open: first, second, or third? They all seem identical.

I look suspiciously at the doors. Then I carefully take out a can of yellow paint. On the ground in front of the first door and on the first door I paint a sun. I paint a leaf on the second door and floor. On the third, I paint a cat paw.
Then I go through the first.

As you put your hand on the knob of the first door, the cat's paw door swings open, revealing an empty closet. The little diamond on it disappears.

Do you still go through the sun door?

This certainly looks like an enjoyable place. It reminds me of the mines beneath the City of Aketti, which were built by at least fifteen different sentient races that kept undermining one another.

I'll start exploring some of the caves nearer the surface.
