"Fhool. Volatilus meht my defehnses and was turned bahck by them. The package has bheen delivered - the transmitter has already called! - the trilobites do not serve the catlike sneak (of whom I know nothing). They're mindless! Larvae! Worms in shells! Bhut how strangely they alter perception...and in such a whay that even the alteration itself can't be perceived in truth."

And perhaps more simply, where is it?

My figuring is that the transmitter calls these odd alterations in our world - the lenses over the beasts, the antennae upon the fungi. Our world is perhaps being prepared for the coming of the remaining spawn.

"Angh, it simply cahlls the next herald! And you won't like this one, I suspect! I'll show you where it is if you aghree to lhet me lheave."

If you agree, the dragon shows you the location of the transmitter. Trilobites seem to like it and have flocked to the area by the dozens.

"If you leave us and our gardens alone, without further molestation, then yes, I personally will agree to let you leave."

I catch a trilobite in a small mesh cage and hang it from my belt.

Get out of here, wyrmspawn! We have preparations to make.

I ready the Council's soldiers for combat against a similar herald. I comb the Gardens for signs and clues. And I hand the transmitter over to Durin for tinkering.

You best leave quickly! My patience for prey is hair thin and I see no reason against slaying you as you cower in your burrow, other than the the sport of hunting has become stale with your cowardice!

Volatilus will examine his spear closer upon righting himself. Perhaps it has grown in power with this encounter...

It certainly has - for at least one well-placed thrust.

I perform a number of experiments with the trilobite in a cage. First, I trick its small mind into thinking that it is free range, even though it is in a small, enclosed area. Then, I attempt to utilize the perceptual alteration properties of these creatures to my own benefit.

If I have to, I will even pamper the thing. Give it food and a virtual world in which to roam. If having one trilobite does nothing, I will give it a companion. Or perhaps several.
