I got some bookends. I don't know if anyone has tried this yet, but I put one bookend on each pan.

I've got another pentacle. But your bookends idea seems like a good one! If it doesn't work, put *two* bookends in each pan.

A pair of bookends in each pan causes the machinery to grind and whir once more.

From the library beneath the clear flooring, a gilt tome rises.

Read it?

The grimoire reads:

“Bluejacket was a fine sea hero but a tortured soul, forced to slay his own beloved by the madness behind his eyes. Strange they were: One as blue as the sea, and the other of lavender. His sword invoked a blessing or a curse: When stained with the blood of an enemy, it became stronger; but could not be sheathed until it slept in the breast of a friend.”

Well, there's no lavender gem... But we'll see what this does: I place a blue gem and an indigo gem into the deep set eyes. I believe the blood phial goes with the sword, but I will wait to try that until I see what happens with the eyes.

The statue rotates clockwise once. With a blast of dust, one of the portalways now leads to a crumbling staircase. The smell of salty sea air reaches up the stairs. The lower stairs are submerged underwater. The water does not smell of poison and the sea is calm. By peering across a bay, you see an iron seat gripped by a statue of a squid. The artist has captured the squid’s pulsing, dark nature.

Tentacles soar from the water and dip beneath again. The surface of the bay roils and churns. A great many boulders are out of place, hurled by that mighty denizen of the sea: the Kraken of Bluejacket.

To reach the iron throne, you will have to brave the bay.

I search for a line of boulders that may allow me to cross the bay without going in the water.
