I also need input on what challenges they should be subject to. Challenges can be as deadly as you please.

Currently:

1. A weregild. What can they give to make up for the deaths they have caused in their lives?
2. Philosophical cross-examination.
3. A variation on the "Wine in front of me" scene from The Princess Bride (Sol's Earth).
4. Plenty of combat.
5. A version of Abyss, where their lives are at risk from other players.
6. Riddles.

More details are now available:

First of all, this will involve two campaigns I've been running (wiki forthcoming on the newer one). Both will have to run through the test. Neither expects the other's presence.

The Last Module is very deadly.

The Catechism
Spoiler: show
Caverns of Chance appear. They fill up with destructive gas over time – a 10% chance of dying after 1 minute, 20% after two.
Who would you save first?
1. A king
2. 3 extinct animal species
3. A lover
4. 30 strangers of your race
5. 100 strangers of mixed races
6. Priest of your religion
7. Random priest
8. Companion
9. 24,000 GP
10. Dying sapient species

The Shibboleth - the Hall of Knowledge
Asks questions about the universe, to see how much they pay attention

The Substantiation - more ideas needed
Spoiler: show
A mega-obstacle course. At each leg, you can choose from 5 options:

1. Path of Speed – golden wind
2. Path of Strength – red earth
3. Path of Endurance – black earth
4. Path of Awareness – blue stars
5. Path of Knowledge – brown book

There will be 3 legs, so I need 15 challenges. I have 0. Feel free to make them deadly; this is epic level we're talking about!

The Ordeal
Surpass all of Mother Gaia's horrid dragon armies and reach the Gaia's Oak to obtain a material for concocting Diamondlight Potion.
If any of the Sailcloth folks obtain godhood, they are required to sponsor Gaia's apotheosis. I have loaned Gaia the Favor to create a pact here on the DP with the Diamond Master enforcing the geas at an unbreakable level. The Sailcloth candidates have already agreed to this bargain:
"If you get to heaven before I do, just make a hole and pull me through."
If she ascends, she must pay me back threefold.

If you have any questions or suggestions, hit me up!

If you want to skype in and sit on the bar, that might be arranged as well.

Grey Helios, currently my liege-serf, has volunteered to provide an out for any who decide they are...unworthy. Simply speak his name and you may be withdrawn safely...but permanently.

I step up to the Throne of Thrash with three dark green boxes.

The first is for Ash. It contains Rasavātam, the Way of Mercury.

Spoiler: show
This leather-bound tome bears the following title in silvery letters:

Rasavātam

The Way of Mercury
OR
Three Fun Things to do with Quicksilver
With
FREE Mercury Pak!!!!

Reading this thick tome bestows knowledge regarding the properties of mercury upon the reader. Depending on how much of the book is read, the reader gains one of three abilities, which must be used within one hour. The book must be read in one sitting.
  • Poison (three hours of reading) - the reader gains the ability to coat an object with contact poison which will last for 1d4 hours. The poison has DC 26 and deals 3d6 Wisdom damage.
  • Cosmetics (three hours of reading) - the reader gains the ability to create a temporary substance lasting 1d4 hours that changes the user's shape (as per the Change Shape supernatural ability; the new form must be determined upon application and must be a create of the same size and approximate shape as the user. For example, a humanoid could become a monstrous humanoid, human, or giant, depending on size.
  • Divination (six hours of reading) - the user can create a temporary magic mirror with the properties of a crystal ball (Will DC 16) lasting 1d4 hours.
This book does not appear to be magical! Only with True Seeing and Detect Magic or with Analyze Dweomer can the properties of this object be ascertained.

The second is for Mirror. It contains the Sigil of Tuonela's Serpent, which bears the name Azoth.

Spoiler: show
This six-inch diameter sigil depicts a silver serpent biting its own tail. The serpent's name - Azoth - should remain a secret, being revealed only if quicksilver is applied to the sigil, at which point the words "I am the poison-dripping dragon, the old dragon found everywhere on the globe, present everywhere on earth, very powerful and very weak, very old and very young" as well as the name Azoth will appear along the snake's body. When the name "Azoth" is called to the sigil, it will awaken and take on the non-magical stats of a couatl. The creature is highly intelligent (Intelligence 20) and can speak Common, Draconic, Celestial, Abyssal, Auran, Ignan, Infernal, and Aquan. It can also cast five transmutation spells per day of fifth level or lower such that the duration of any spell it casts is limited to at most one hour.

The third is for Freyaline. This item was once mine; I have kept it. It now bears the name Besh Tozhaanii - the Trowel of the Pioneer.

Spoiler: show
This little shovel is constantly dripping quicksilver. When you dig it into the ground, swarms of insects pour out of the earth. The insects are poisonous (equivalent to Dragon Bile) and also glow bright red. Digging patterns in the ground can be used to imbue an area with a spell, such that a specified individual or category cannot enter without being targeted by the spell. Inscribing the earth in this way uses up the spell, but when the spell is released, it will be as if it had been Empowered.

Ash loves her gift and has already made much use of the insanity poison.

Mirror is very pleased with the true name component and plans to keep the monster for a surprise.

Freyaline excites much jealousy with her gift.

The characters are beginning to think more deeply about which gifts they should use based on what it means to those who provided the gifts.

In a well-lit but well-removed alcove carved into the Frozen Ocean, I construct a tremendous desk the size of a mountain and gargantuan tomes of blank paper for Thrash to write his histories. A lake of ink and a quill made from the feather of some unearthly, cosmic fowl sit in a massive inkwell.

I work furiously, night and day, battering the Sslugs with one hand and trying to come to understand them with the other.

Out of all the most powerful denizens of Thrash and Luna Diana, four have been found worthy. I welcome Tiger Henge, ascended of Freyaline. I welcome Agni, ascended of Ash. I welcome Kabet, known by many names. I welcome Planetossed, who would surely have found his way here somehow or another.
